how do I know organic food is safe?

Certified organic growers not only are inspected by third-party independent certifiers in order to qualify for organic certification, but they also follow strict guidelines for safe and hygienic food production. As with all food producers, they must be in compliance with local, state and federal health standards.

Food safety is a difficult subject, because there are so many things that impact the safety of fresh produce. And today there's no single magic bullet that eliminates every possible danger. This is, after all, fresh produce that grows in the ground. At organicgirl, we believe the very best way to give you the safest possible product is to pay extremely close attention to every single step from seed to your table, and to impose very rigid standards along the way. For example, we work with every grower to inspect their fields prior to planting to be sure that all food safety risks have been managed properly. We set strict food safety guidelines for our growers and harvesters and we audit them throughout the growing season to be sure they follow food safety procedures to the letter. Finally, we do one last inspection at harvest to be sure the field and the crop have not been compromised in any way.
